Care for Her Child

Each woman who walks through our doors desires to make a better life not just for herself, but for her baby. Harvest Home’s primary role is to support each mother by ensuring that she has the knowledge and skills necessary to create a safe and healthy environment for her child. We harness the support of our staff, volunteers, and community agencies to create a network that provides our women with experienced and professional support.

Harvest Home uses an educational curriculum that consists of DVDs, books, and classes that ensures each woman is as prepared as she can be for childbirth and parenting. Each woman has 24/7 support of our live-in house managers who are available for counsel, advice or in the case of an emergency.

Pregnancy and Child Birth

Each woman is paired with a professionally-certified doula to walk with her through her journey of pregnancy and child birth, providing:

  • Child birth preparation classes
  • Breastfeeding classes
  • Assistance in creating a birth plan, helping each woman make informed choices; supporting each mom in her choices and helping her articulate her preferences to health care professionals
  • Support throughout labor

Postpartum and Infant Care

  • Breastfeeding support through in-home visits with a lactation consultant
  • A class on infant massage
  • Monthly curriculum through What To Expect When You’re Expecting
  • In-home support to help identify and work through any challenges

  • A six-week parenting course, using the STEP curriculum for parenting young children
  • In-home support to help identify and work through any challenges
