Harvest Home’s goal is to have each woman achieve financial independence and self-sufficiency, to prevent her from falling into homelessness again.
Increasing Employability Through Education
Harvest Home works with each woman to:
- Identify short-term and long-term vocational goals
- Establish an educational plan to accomplish these goals
- Enroll in courses according to her educational plan, such as:
- GED completion
- Vocational certificate courses
- Community college courses
- Other university courses
Harvest Home provides the following support to each woman:
- Tuition assistance to offset the cost of schooling
- Tutoring as needed
- A career class and additional career counseling as needed
- Mentoring or coaching in the areas of resume writing, job searching, and interviewing
Encouraging Financial Knowledge and Responsibility
Harvest Home works with each woman to:
- Obtain her credit score and work on credit repair
- Identify unhealthy spending habits and understand motivations driving these habits
- Create a budget and hold accountable to that budget
- Establish a habit of saving
Harvest Home provides the following support to each woman:
- A finance and budgeting class
- A match savings program to be cashed out upon graduation from the program
- Coaching through Dave Ramsey’s “My Total Money Makeover” curriculum
- Accountability for budgeting and saving goals, and helping to overcome any obstacles
